Biography
Magnus Maxine, born in 1985 in Juneau, Alaska, is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work intersects craft, abstraction, and conceptual art. Painted on the tops of newspapers, her paintings transform the surface into vessels of spiritual connection and introspection. Her canvas of choice, newspapers, symbolizes society's most transient ephemera. Covering the surface of the papers acts as a rejection of the relentless barrage of the news cycle. Maxine's process involves pulverizing and reconstructing these disposable artifacts with oil paint, creating compositions that relate to symbology, quilting, and repetition. Maxine has a BFA from The California Institute of the Arts.
